September 25, 2013 - Blue Fish Restaurant

Our September, 2013 luncheon at the Blue Fish Restaurant in Avondale.  There were 26 of us there in all. We are missing two in this picture (Barbara Jansen Howay and Nancy McMillan Weddington) - and two more (Audrey Jones Williams and Kathleen Raulerson Crook) are hidden from view in the back row. In the picture are  Penny Gilberstadt Smith, Wylene Montgomery Shank, Jane Turnage Jenkins, Sherry Philips Hawkins, Beth LeGate Pickels, Margo Duffe Harkrader, Peggy Croom, Eleanor Chance Baker, Patsy Rhodes Johnson, Faye Johnson Barrow, Sherry Allen Mcalister, Janice Crawley Elrod, Patsy Avinger Jordan, Linda Fos VanLandingham, Mary Pearce Jordan, Elaine Perry Starling, Sonja Vinzant Harpe, Barbara Rulkiewisz Kirkman, M. Susan Slaughter Milne Lee Class of 1961 Miss Lee High - 1960

Susan Slaughter Milne passed away October 4, 2010, just shy of her 67th birthday, following a brief illness. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Susan was the daughter of O. Harrell and Josephine Slaughter. She attended West Riverside Elementary, John Gorrie Jr. HS, and Robert E. Lee HS where she was an outstanding student with a host of accomplishments, including Miss Lee High, Delta Hi-Y Mascot and cheerleader. She maintained an equally distinguished record at FSU, where she earned a degree in English in 1964, and was Miss Tally Ho and a sister in Pi Beta Phi sorority. Following graduation, she taught English in the Duval County school system, including her alma mater, Lee. Susan is survived by her four children, Doug, Jr. (Isabelle), Joey (Stephanie), William (Leigh Anne) and Mary Susan Chase (Ian), all of Jacksonville; sister, Joan Wilson, of Montgomery, AL; and 5 beloved grandchildren, Isy, Lucy, Dougie, Diane and Ford. Beneath her calm demeanor was a fierce spirit of wholesome competition. An accomplished tennis player, she won numerous championships for years thoughout Jacksonville, and readily accepted the mental challenges of bridge. Susan maintained an unparalleled passion for animals, especially dogs and cats, often taking in and providing a home for numerous strays, and subscribed to the philosophy that happiness and peace on earth will only be achieved when humans love, care for and respect all living creatures. She was active in various civic organizations including The Junior League, and the Humane Society, and was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church where she served as church secretary for years.

A group of eight Lee classmates met for lunch at Talons Restaurant at Eagle Harbor Golf Course in Fleming Island on August 14, 2023.
