A list of classmates who attended the reunion follows the pictures.
The Ballroom of the Timuquana Country Club was filled with 173 people (112 classmates and 61 guests) for our Robert E. Lee High School 60-Year Reunion on Saturday, March 7, 2020.
We enjoyed rekindling old friendships. It was a wonderful time of reminiscing about our high school years and catching up on current activities. The multiple food stations allowed us to interact and talk with more people.
A challenging part of the reunion was arranging our classmates for the group pictures. It was difficult getting the groups together, to quit talking, and look at the camera. Thanks to our photographer, Bob Basford, for putting up with us.
Everyone was having so much fun, it was equally hard to get them to leave the area for the next group’s picture. And, George Wilke and Jim Terrell posed for every picture.
Our reunion directory was distributed with contact information for 349 classmates (now 357). About a third of these classmates attended the reunion. We’ve mailed 56 ordered directories to classmates unable to attend. The directories included the names of 83 missing classmates (now reduced to 72, or 12%), and sadly, 152 deceased classmates (now 155, or 26%).
Yes, the numbers above (357 + 72 + 155) add to 584, more than our graduating class. The explanation is that we’ve always included those that attended Lee, but didn’t graduate with us due to school transfers, family moves, or summer school.
As you might expect, many of our classmates live in Jacksonville, 26% to be exact. Another 17% live in one of the First Coast counties (Nassau, Clay, Baker, and St. Johns). We have 18% of our classmates that live in 43 cities in other Florida counties.
Other than the cities in Duval and the other First Coast counties, Orlando and Tallahassee are at the top with 5 classmates each. We have 4 classmates in each of Crescent City and Tampa.
Nearly 2/3 of our classmates live in Florida with the remainder in 29 other states. Georgia leads the way with 39 classmates, followed by North Carolina with 16 and Alabama with 13. We have 7 classmates in Tennessee, 7 in Virginia, 6 in California, and 6 in Colorado. We even have classmates living in Alaska and Hawaii.
Thanks to Jack Huddleston for analyzing our classmate locations and providing the above data. If you want to know more, contact Jack and he’ll dazzle you with his spreadsheet statistics.
There was an optional dinner on Friday night at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Orange Park, where many of our out-of-town classmates stayed. Sixty people got an early start on the reunion by getting reacquainted at the hotel and its restaurant.
Fifty people went to the school tour and hot dog lunch on Saturday. Everyone came away impressed with the school facilities and academic programs. The weather was windy and chilly, so it was nice to grab a hot dog, soda, and bag of chips from the food truck and go inside to eat. An enjoyable time was had by all.
If you have information on how to contact anyone on the missing list, or you are aware of any names that should be added to our deceased list, please let us know.
We'd like to thank everyone that attended the reunion and made it such a wonderful time. Please stay connected. Use your directories to contact those that were unable to attend the reunion.
NOTE: Mark your calendars for our annual reunion that resumes on March 6, 2021. Details will be provided at a later date. And, please let us know if your contact information changes.
